There are growing calls for consumers to boycott Apple purchases tomorrow in response to the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. Apple is one of three companies being targeted by the #March1NRABoycott as it offers access to NRAtv through Apple TV … Activists say that that the NRA’s TV channels incite violence, reports HuffPost. Business Insider notes that one NRAtv program wants to actually make it easier for people to obtain assault weapons of the type used in the latest school shooting....

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 writer and director James Gunn reveals he cut the scene that had the most Easter eggs. Gunn had a lot of fun with comic book fans everywhere when he made the first Guardians of the Galaxy film, especially when it came to including nods and Easter eggs to characters and artifacts from the comics. Most notably, The Collector’s (Benicio del Toro) showroom wound up being a treasure trove of Easter eggs for fans to spend their time freeze-framing and picking through, with appearances from both Cosmo the Spacedog and Adam Warlock’s cocoon....

Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy was something of an unexpected critical/commercial smash hit for the studio - though seeing as Marvel announced the sequel, which is now officially titled Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, before the first installment had opened in theaters, it seems fair to say that the comic book company had an inkling that co-writer/director James Gunn’s cosmic action/comedy would play well with the masses. Jump ahead to the present and Gunn has now begun filming the Guardians of the Galaxy followup, with returning cast members Chris Pratt (Peter Quill/Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), and Dave Bautista (Drax the Destroyer) - plus Vin Diesel (Groot) and Bradley Cooper (Rocket Raccoon) lined up to reprise their vocal performances for the motion-capture members of the main Guardians lineup....

David Gordon Green’s Halloween and Jeremy Saulnier’s horror-thriller Hold the Dark will both host their U.S. premieres at Fantastic Fest 2018 next month. The former is currently scheduled to begin its domestic theatrical release in October (just under two weeks before the titular holiday), whereas the latter will become available for streaming through Netflix at the end of September. While fast-approaching events like the Toronto and Venice International Film Festivals typically focus on would-be awards season contenders and prestigious director-driven films with their lineups, the annual Fantastic Fest usually highlights genre fare instead (specifically, of the horror and thriller variety)....

After five progressively more bizarre seasons, the gritty and outlandish crime drama recounting Jim Gordon’s early years in the Gotham City Police Department came to a close. For a series inspired by the Batman comic book mythos, it had the unenviable task of ending in a way that would herald the Caped Crusader’s inevitable arrival. While normally a Gotham series without a strong Batman presence would have been tantamount to sacrilege, viewers became invested in the colorful characters that surrounded his origins more than superhero himself....

Both sources grabbed shots of the upcoming Grand Central Apple Store as it was actively being worked on Friday, November 18th. Every drama on television needs to have an element of crazy to it, or at least an element of being slightly unbelievable. If they didn’t, they wouldn’t be called dramas. However, Grey’s Anatomy manages to seize the concept of ‘crazy’ and take it to a whole new level. The show has never shied away from major stunts and disasters (anyone recalls the plane crash in Season 8?) but its second season seems to incorporate more than its fair share of insanity....

Marvel Studios will reportedly wait a while to get Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 off the ground, as a new report states filming won’t begin until 2021. The firing of James Gunn as director of Guardians 3 has sent the project into a state of uncertainty. He won’t be returning to direct as many had hoped, but his script is said to be still used. While that is great news for fans of the franchise, it still leaves a massive role that Marvel needs to fill, one they’re reportedly in no rush to do....

Director Guy Ritchie and Jason Statham’s untitled new movie is already done shooting. The filmmaker and actor go back a long ways. Statham made his screen debut in Ritchie’s very first feature-length effort, 1998’s Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels, and would go on to work with him again on his second, Snatch, two years later. The pair earned largely positive reviews for their snappy gangster-crime flicks, allowing Ritchie to stand out alongside the many other Tarantino imitators that emerged in the late ’90s (post-Pulp Fiction), and sending Statham on his way to becoming the bonafide action star he is today....

Apple made a big, polarizing splash when it announced its new wireless AirPods during last week’s iPhone 7 keynote. The AirPods, which are completely devoid of any wires, were met with plenty of mixed reactions online. Whether or not you agree with the design of the AirPods is one thing, but the new W1 wireless chip, Apple’s first, is promising to bring a better overall wireless audio experience to the masses....

In June a report detailed a feature in development by Google that would reportedly allow Android devices to alert “people, places, and things” to the presence of nearby users. At the time, reports referred to the feature as “Nearby” and described it as a location-based feature for Android devices in close proximity to one another. Today, AndroidPolice is back with more info pointing to evidence that the feature will be cross-platform and allow Android and iOS devices to share content and communicate when nearby....

There you have it, the definite proof that Apple’s massive store in New York City’s Grand Central Terminal is opening doors for business at 10am next Friday, December 9 – just in time for Christmas. Kudos to Marco Arment, the Instapaper developer, for tweeting the above photo which clearly shows the “Arriving Friday, December 9” temporary signage adorning Apple’s trademark black curtain used to tease a forthcoming grand opening. State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli plans on taking a closer look at Apple’s dirt cheap deal with MTA, which leased store space in Grand Central Terminal at a bargain price of just $60 per square foot (works out to $800,000 during the first year) versus the $200+ per square foot most other tenants pay....

. The wraps are coming off of the Grand Central Apple store frontage to reveal a ticker sign according to our morning commuter tipster. The screens move like flipping letters of the old Grand Central timetables. The design is reminiscent of Apple’s Green Monster Facade at the Boston Store. A construction worker on the scene said that the store wasn’t going to be opening any time soon, reiterating a comment from yesterday....

Commenting on Andy Inhatko’s article on iOS storing user’s location data, Daring Fireball‘s John Gruber reveals that iOS storing user’s location information is in fact a bug. The bug comes down to a consolidated.db being in place. This file is supposed to store a user’s recent location information to work with iOS and iOS applications, but, due to a bug, does not delete older location information. Gruber “wagers” that the bug will be fixed in a future release of iOS, and we tend to agree with him....

Back when Guardians of the Galaxy was released in theatres in 2014, comic book fans everywhere were excited to see another strong female character represented in the genre with Zoe Saldana’s Gamora. However, they were later confused when the film’s toy lines all but excluded the character from their lineups, prompting the online #WheresGamora to be created, in the hopes of calling attention to the constant exclusion of female film characters from their merchandising....
