James Gunn teases a death in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. After getting fired by Disney last year from his post at Marvel Studios following the emergence of some of his unsavory social media posts from a decade ago, the director is back to his old job, helming the much-anticipated threequel. He’s currently busy with DC’s The Suicide Squad first, which is already in production. Once that’s done, Gunn will be back in more familiar territory....

As Rogue One: A Star Wars Story nears its theatrical premiere in December 2016 and Star Wars: Episode VIII makes its way through post, another film from the galaxy far, far away is gearing up to start production. Directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller are handling pre-production responsibilities for the young Han Solo anthology film, currently looking for the movie’s female lead. Principal photography is set to begin in January 2017, so they still have some time to put the final pieces in place....

The developers of Handbrake just announced the 0.10 update to their extremely popular and useful Open Source video transcoding product. Originally focused on ripping DVDs, the product now can be used for transcribing many different types of files/codecs to almost any other. Today’s headliner updates include H.265 and VP8 encoding. The LibAV AAC encoder is now the default as FAAC has been removed. This encoder is adequate for most, but until it improves a bit further, we have enabled support for the FDK-AAC encoder also....

At its Made by Google 2022 event today, the company officially launched its Pixel 7 and 7 Pro, Pixel Watch, and more. In an interview, Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman reveals a few tidbits on Apple’s Mac lineup development for the coming months and years. In addition, he said Apple had a Mac Pro “ready to go” with the M1 chip but ultimately decided to wait for the M2 Pro. This interview was made by YouTuber Vadim Yuriev and published today. Pacific Rim director Guillermo del Toro was unable to wait out production delays and had to bail on helming the sequel Pacific Rim Uprising, but it’s been revealed that del Toro did stay extensively involved with production on the second film - offering his maestro’s input during the shooting process. As demoed by Apple on stage, the latest instalment of Guitar Hero, Guitar Hero Live, is now available on Apple TV. It’s just like classic Guitar Hero, a three-lane rhythm based game, but modernised with better visuals, ‘real’ band members, enhanced crowd reactions, and more. Requiring a game controller peripheral is a controversial move, as it goes against Apple’s normal App Store policy for Apple TV games. In fact, it appears to defy the rules about game controllers laid out by Apple....

Earlier this week, Apple introduced the new International Collection of Apple Watch bands designed to celebrate the Summer Olympics. There are 22 bands in total, available for all sizes of Apple Watch. Each band is based on Apple’s sport loop but has unique country-specific designs. Google today introduced Trips, a new app that lets you manage and organize everything about your vacations in one place. The app tries to solve a big pain point with international travel — Internet access — by automatically storing all your trip information offline, and it also makes suggestions during your trip based on what’s nearby to craft the perfect day plans… The most obvious feature of this app is that your trip reservations are automatically gathered from your Gmail account and stored offline (if you have an Android phone, you’re already used to Google Now helping you with this)....

Of all the upcoming movies that Marvel Studios has announced for the next couple of “Phases” of the MCU, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is one of the few that have been confirmed to be happening, yet doesn’t have a release date. The ending of Avengers: Endgame has left the events of Vol. 3 up in the air, and thanks to all the James Gunn firing/rehiring drama, we might have to wait until 2022 to have all our questions answered....

Google has taken another step toward protecting users from fishing attempts by releasing a new Google Chrome extension ‘Password Alert‘. The extension protects users from being Gmail account overused with other non-google websites. As soon as it detects that the password has been exposed to any non-google website/service, it prompts to reset password immediately. Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld says that he would love to see Ryan Reynolds reprise his role as Green Lantern. Before he made himself known as the Merc with a Mouth, the actor first tried to headline a superhero franchise by playing the DC character. Unfortunately, unlike his Marvel stint, his time as Hal Jordan wasn’t as well-received, making it only a one-time thing. Apple and Samsung headed back to court yesterday over the patent fight that started back in 2011. After Samsung finished its opening statement today, Apple brought its first witness to the stand, VP of product marketing, Greg Joswiak. Yesterday was consumed with finding unbiased jurors. This ended up being a tricky task and took 74 candidates to select eight jurors. For his part, Joswiak today opened by saying that Steve Jobs built Apple around a central theme of design while showing the jury photos of Apple products....
