We’ve been getting hit by iOS 10 and macOS 10.12 since the middle of last year, mostly coming from Apple’s campus and the surrounding areas. Obviously, things have been ramping up lately and it’s interesting to see what the numbers are like a few hours ahead of when all developers get their hands on the new OSes and the data gets crazy… It’s also a good time to remind any brave but eager beta testers to make good backups of iOS and OS X devices before jumping into the inevitable buggy fun that iOS 10 and macOS 10....

Actress Karen Gillan is “excited” about making Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 for the fans. Gillan plays the character Nebula, who is the adoptive daughter of the Mad Titan Thanos, making Gamora her adoptive sister. Nebula first appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy in 2014, but has since appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Avengers: Infinity War. While the first two Guardians of the Galaxy films did quite well with fans, the third film has been in jeopardy for months since Disney fired James Gunn, due to some of his years-old tweets....

Robin Walker, veteran programmer and designer at Valve, has announced their upcoming Half-Life: Alyx will transition the storied franchise to VR in a natural and organic way that will keep the game feeling familiar yet set up the series for the future. Walker has worked on some of Valve’s most renowned titles since 1996 including Counter-Strike, Half-Life 2, and Dota 2. The long-awaited prequel to Half-Life 2 is set to release March 23, 2020....

Halo Infinite is Halo 6, 343 Industries content producer and writer Jeff Easterling confirms. The game, which is poised to debut sometime between Q3 and Q4 of next year, will not feature a battle royale multiplayer mode as previously confirmed by Easterling and co-developer James Bachici. Despite that, fans can expect that the installment will be a return to the series’ original form which made it so popular in the first place....

Among the new features introduced with the sixth beta release of iOS 14.5, which is currently available to developers and public beta users, Apple has added two new voice options for Siri. If you have already updated your iPhone, iPad, or even HomePod to iOS 14.5, read on as we explain how you can find and enable the new Siri voices. According to Apple, the new voices were recorded to sound more natural, even with phrases generated by Apple’s Neural text to speech engine....

Google this afternoon announced an update to its Search apps on both Android and iOS that includes voice search support for three addition languages. In a blog post, the company announced that the app can now understand French, German, and Japanese. In addition to being able understand the new languages and give text results, the Search app can also now give spoken answers back in those languages. Google says it will continue to work on adding even more languages to its Search app and that this is just the beginning of its efforts....

Now that the iPhone SE is widely available to customers, we’re learning more about the technical specifications of the device. The developers behind the Halide Camera app have now published a deep dive into the iPhone SE’s camera, shedding new light on the single-lens system. A teardown from iFixit confirmed that the iPhone SE’s camera hardware is interchangeable with the iPhone 8, but Halide’s breakdown focuses on the camera software. Specifically, it points out the fact that the iPhone SE is the “first iPhone that can generate a portrait effect using nothing but a single, 2D image....

On April 1st among a number of pranks, Google announced Gmail Motion Beta. The software allegedly implemented a patented spatial tracking technology that detects your body movements through your webcam. To further the joke, Google made the Gmail Motion gestures about as ridiculous as possible; including one where you lick your hand and slap it on your knee. It all was fun and games, until University of Southern California student, Evan Suma, replied with a copy-cat Microsoft Kinect hack that made Gmail Motion a reality....

[SPOILERS for those not caught up on Gotham ahead.] - Gotham wrapped up the first half of its third season with ‘Beware The Green-Eyed Monster’, with the fall finale seeing Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) racing to save his ex-lover from her unstable fiancé and Bruce, Alfred and Selena teaming up to steal from the mysterious Court of Owls. Much of Gotham’s narrative this season has revolved around the introduction of Jervis Tetch (Benedict Samuel) and the growing presence of the Court of Owls in the city, whilst also finding time to deal with at least some of Gordon’s many personal demons - as he journeyed from downbeat mercenary to respected member of the GCPD once again....

Influencer marketing became ubiquitous not because it was a cheaper alternative to celebrity endorsements, or because it’s just a more effective way to target advertising to specific audiences. You can do those things, of course, but that’s not the reason influencers have value. Their value is in the authenticity of their endorsements. Guardians of the Galaxy writer-director James Gunn has taken to social media to confirm some of the central themes of the films. The Guardians of the Galaxy movies are some of Marvel’s most humorous, but they’re also a lot darker than fans actually think. Gamora and Nebula, for example, are dealing with a twisted, tortured relationship defined by years of Thanos’s abuse. Drax is seeking revenge after the slaughter of his family....

Buttons on smartphones are receding. Recently, Samsung discounted its Bixby home key that means, it has a power button and volume rockers only which is the same pattern followed by all Android devices. Sony which is one of the biggest smartphone manufacturers follows the same pattern where it uses three physical buttons of which, the power button is of par importance. Power button enables the user to turn on the screen, turn off the screen, power down and switch on the phone and much more which makes it an important component....

Guillermo del Toro has confirmed that production on the Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark movie adaptation will get underway later this week. Trollhunter and The Autopsy of Jane Doe filmmaker André Øvredal will be serving as director on the project, which is based on a script that del Toro cowrote. While del Toro has been developing the Scary Stories movie since 2016, the big screen take on Alvin Schwartz’s best-selling spooky stories collections (which were published in the 1980s and early ’90s) has been in development since as far back as 2013....

Halo’s Franchise Developer, Frank O’Conor, has recently denied the existence of an upcoming Halo Infinite Battle Royale mode, though the possibility of something analogous hasn’t been written off completely. This was in response to a report that ran contradictory to what 343 Industries has said in the past about available game modes for the latest in the Halo series. Not a lot is currently known about the launch content of Halo Infinite aside from the fact that it’s going to have splitscreen co-op, increased support for the Windows launch, and callbacks to Halo Reach in terms of customization....
