The people who are excited about Half-Life: Alyx will soon have another chance to purchase a Valve Index VR Kit and Valve is celebrating the occasion with two new VR environments from the game. Valve announced Half-Life: Alyx at the end of 2019, with the promise of a landmark VR experience that marks the first new Half-Life game since 2007.

Half-Life: Alyx is currently only planned to be released on PC, but it will be compatible with a number of different VR headsets that are on the market. The people who are preparing for Half-Life: Alyx will need to make sure that they have compatible gear, but Valve has ensured that there are a number of different ways to play the game in order to make things as comfortable for the player as possible. Valve Index sales have doubled since 2019, as many fans are buying Valve’s hardware specifically for the game.

The Valve Index headsets have been selling out in various regions due to the impending release of Half-Life: Alyx. The people who missed out on buying a kit will soon have a chance to purchase one, as Valve has announced on Twitter that more sets will be available to purchase soon, starting from 10 AM PDT, March 9, 2020. The people who already own a Valve Index can experience part of the game right now, as Valve has released two VR environments from the game that can be experienced on SteamVR.

The two VR environments include an outdoor environment within City 17, which has the Citadel looming in the background. The other is within Russell’s laboratory, which is where Alyx plans her attacks on the Combine. Valve has pointed out in a Steam Community post that the rendering technology of SteamVR isn’t as good as what will be present in the game, so fans shouldn’t expect the level of interactivity or quality of the visuals to be the same between the two.

Fans have been waiting a long time to return to the Half-Life universe, but not everyone is willing to spend money on an expensive piece of hardware to do so. VR gaming has needed that one big hit that can sell the concept to skeptical gamers and Valve just might have what it takes to do so. We’ll know soon enough, as Half-Life: Alyx is due to be released in a few weeks, but fans who have already invested in the hardware can take a brief trip back to City 17 right now.
