While not much is known about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, director James Gunn has revealed one thing fans won’t see in the film: A dance-off between Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) and Thor (Chris Hemsworth). One of the most memorable moments of 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy comes near the end of the film, when Star-Lord challenges villain Ronan (Lee Pace) to a dance-off. Of course, it’s all a distraction so Star-Lord’s teammates could take Ronan out, but the funny moment has stuck in the minds of audiences as a classic example of the humor found in the Guardians films.

Vol. 3 has yet to receive an official release date, but fans have been assured that it remains on Marvel’s docket. Gunn (who was famously fired and re-hired) has been busy working on DC’s The Suicide Squad, but with that starting to wrap up production, there’s a good chance Gunn will soon turn his attention to his other group of morally gray superhero misfits. Details surrounding Vol. 3 have been kept hush-hush, but many have assumed the film will include Thor, who was last seen jetting off into space with the Guardians at the end of Avengers: Endgame.

The pairing of Star-Lord and Thor led to some humorous moments in Endgame and Avengers: Infinity War, and it sounds like fans are hoping for more. However, Gunn revealed on Instagram that there will be no dance-off between the two men. After receiving multiple requests to include a dance-off in Vol. 3, Gunn merely posted “Not gonna happen” on his Instagram story. You can see the post below:

Of course, there is still a chance Thor won’t appear in Vol. 3 at all. Last summer, it was announced that Thor will be getting a fourth solo film titled Thor: Love and Thunder, which will be released before Vol. 3. Recently, Pratt was asked about Thor’s potential inclusion in Vol. 3, and he refused to definitively say whether the God of Thunder will join the Guardians on their next adventure.

As funny as a dance-off between Thor and Star-Lord would be, it’s probably better to leave it out. It would feel too much like copying the first film and therefore likely wouldn’t be as hilarious. If Thor does appear in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, it’s very possible he and Star-Lord will still butt heads, and Gunn will surely find a fresh way to make light of that. Perhaps they can challenge each other to a different kind of duel for the other Guardians to judge? Whatever happens, Gunn probably has a plan already set in place.
