Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is set to premiere in May 2017, continuing the adventures of unlikely hero Peter “Star-Lord” Quill (Chris Pratt) and his fellow Guardians, Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista), Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper), and Groot (Vin Diesel). Writer/director James Gunn returns with the new adventure that will “unravel the mystery of Peter Quill’s true parentage.”
With filming currently underway, Gunn and the cast have been dropping a few hints and photos to build buzz for the sequel. This includes a glimpse of Karen Gillan’s Nebula costume and a teaser image of the whole Guardians crew, featuring “Baby Groot.” The Guardians of the Galaxy 2 Set Visit Contest promotional video features Pratt giving a mini-tour of the set, including some shots of Star-Lord’s ship, the Milano.
Now Saldana has been joining in the fun, sharing a couple images of herself in costume on her Instagram page, including a close-up selfie with Pratt. Now she’s offered her Facebook fans another photo of herself as Gamora, this time on the Milano.

Though the actress looks to be having a good time on the set, we’re not sure how much fun Gamora will be having in the new film. The good news is that Thanos, Gamora’s genocidal adoptive father, won’t be in the sequel. Her “sister” Nebula will be, however, and actress Gillan has said the new film will “flesh out” more of their complex relationship, which ended on pretty bad terms in the battle with Ronan. It’s not clear yet if Nebula will have a change of heart and join forces with Gamora, or if that fight to the death will continue when they meet again.
While Saldana and the original Guardians headline the new movie, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 also includes the return of Michael Rooker as outlaw Yondu, and rumor has it Sylvester Stallone will be joining Yondu’s Ravagers. Kurt Russell will likely appear as Quill’s alien father, along with Pom Klementieff (Oldboy (2013)) as Mantis, the dangerous telepath with “daddy issues.” While we don’t know a lot yet about the new movie, the bits and pieces seem to hint at that same focus on character and intriguing plot twists that made the original so much more than a run-of-the-mill space adventure.
