The Marvel Cinematic Universe is the biggest franchise that currently exists within Hollywood. With that being the case, every reporter and site want to get in on the action and break the biggest news for upcoming films. This is not something that is only being done for Marvel films, but any major blockbuster including DC movies, Star Wars films, and others like them. Recently, some new rumors have started circulating regarding the future of the MCU.

Among the new reports, the cosmic side of the MCU have been a big focus. Between Star-Lord possibly having a big role in Avengers: Infinity War or details on Valkyrie and Skurge in Thor: Ragnarok, outer space has been among the headlines. While all of these and others are just rumors, writer/director James Gunn has come out to debunk one regarding to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

A rumor about the role that the Elders would play in Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy sequel popped up online recently, courtesy of Schmoes Know. The report stated that the Elders of the Universe would be comprised of The Collector (Benicio del Toro), Ayesha (Elizabeth Debicki), and the mysterious characters played by Sylvester Stallone and Sharon Stone. Gunn has now uncharacteristically broken his word to not comment on rumors regarding the film to debunk this one:

Where do you guys get this nonsense? Who are all the people running around giving fake inside scoops to journalists? https://t.co/9abS5jGYcP— James Gunn (@JamesGunn) October 5, 2016

Some people may be thinking that Gunn could just be trying to save this reveal for the film itself, but he has kept quiet on so many other rumors that him breaking his streak for this is a sure fire indicator that it is false. If the director refuting the rumor is not enough, there is plenty of other evidence that points to the report not being true. For starters, del Toro said at the beginning of the year that he did not think he was in the film, and Gunn later confirmed just that with him since he “just didn’t fit into Volume 2.”

As for Stallone, he was spotted in the Vol. 2 footage shown at San Diego Comic-Con this year. Descriptions point to his costume resembling that of his from Dredd, which seems to indicate a role as a member of the Nova Corps, not an Elder. Ayesha on the other hand is already confirmed to be the main villain and described by Gunn as follows:

It is safe to say that there is little to no evidence that point to the Elders rumors being true now, which should remind everyone that anything not confirmed by the studio or someone directly involved is just a rumor until proven otherwise. Everyone is eager to see and learn more from Vol. 2, but it is exactly seven months away from the time of this writing.

Ayesha is the golden High Priestess of a genetically-perfect people called the Sovereign. She’s not a woman to be screwed with – she, and her entire world, are extraordinarily deadly.
