When Guardians of the Galaxy hit theaters back in 2014, it seemed a bit risky. After all, the film was unlike anything the MCU had presented before, taking place entirely on planets that weren’t Earth, presenting Star Wars-esque space battles, and featuring a talking racoon and sentient tree among its titular team. Guardians also took a risk by casting a newly-buff Chris Pratt as the lead hero, an actor then primarily known for comedic work, with no notable action experience. The gamble of course paid off big time, with Guardians hauling in a massive $773 million worldwide on a budget of $120 million, and Pratt subsequently rocketing to A-list stardom.

With Guardians now firmly established as one of the hottest properties in the Marvel Studios cannon, to say that this summer’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is riding in on a wave of hype and anticipation - and hefty box office projections - would be a massive understatement. Fans waited with bated breath for a trailer, and weren’t disappointed when it arrived, with a lot of the credit for that going to the adorable baby version of Groot. Additional trailers have only added to the excitement, painting a picture of a sequel likely to be just as much of a good time as its predecessor.

With that in mind, YouTube content creators CineFix have taken it upon themselves to pay tribute to one of Guardians 2’s recent trailers in hilarious fashion. The group has created a shot-for-shot, low-tech remake, offering fans an amusing glimpse at what Guardians 2 might have looked like if produced in the same manner as the legendarily low-budget, officially unreleased Roger Corman version of the Fantastic Four. Check out the full video above, and marvel at the DIY ingenuity it must have taken to create it.

As one will quickly notice, a lot of the more complex effects shots were recreated using action figures and homemade sculptures. The video is also backed by an acapella rendition of Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain,” the song featured in the trailer being remade. Perhaps the best part is the low-tech renditions of Baby Groot and Rocket, with the latter being accomplished via a stuffed animal, and the former being briefly rendered in both stop-motion and as a small puppet.
