GTA Online introduces a brand new motorsport racing mode with its most recent update. Here’s how to properly use the new Kinetic Energy Recovery System or KERS to win races. Get behind the wheel in this brand new update for Grand Theft Auto Online that brings major-league racing to the city of Los Santos, across Southern San Andreas to Vinewood Hills. This mode also introduces 7 brand new tracks and 2 high-speed vehicles with the Ocelot R88 and the Progen PR4. These new cards can be purchased at the Legendary Motorsport website. Each of these new vehicles can be customized and upgraded. Along with these new vehicles, they each contain an ability called the Kinetic Energy Recovery System. This guide will show players how to properly use this feature.

The Kinetic Energy Recovery System adds an extra speed boost to these record fast vehicles. KERS has been involved in GTA Online for a while, as it was a part of the Lectro motorcycle playset. By using KERS, it uses the bike’s axle power to generate power for the hyper cell battery and gives a massive speed boost. In the newest Open Wheel Race game mode, this is an excellent tool for mixing up the players’ opponents. There are certain moments to use this feature during races. This guide will layout the most optimal moments to use KERS.

Using KERS in Open Wheel Races in GTA Online

Considering each of the motorsport vehicles can go at record-high speeds, it’s important to use KERS as the proper times. Using KERS during the incorrect moments can not only cost the player the race but also cost them their lives. As with much of GTA Online, other players will constantly try and screw the player out of a victory. It is possible for other players to bump in the car, causing them to spin out of control. The best time to use KERS during these races would be to maintain a lead if the player has one. That way the player can see opponents disappear in their rearview mirrors.

Another example of properly using KERS would be when missing turns. It is very possible to miss a turn on 1 out of the 7 of these race tracks. Make sure to angle the car properly and use KERS to regain momentum quickly. This is an excellent way to make up for previous mistakes. KERS should be used only during emergency situations. If its the final lap, using KERS as often as the game allows is another way to make a last-ditch effort at victory.

Learning the layout of each race track will take some time, but once the player does, using KERS at the optimal moments will present itself. Each track has its own unique layout for players to attempt and take each other out on. Each track also is directly in Los Santos, making them familiar areas to play around in. GTA Online is constantly introducing new gameplay features, heists and missions. The motorsport racing is just another amongst the long list of free additional content. In a game where driving is a heavy emphasis on its identity, Open Wheel Races is a welcomed addition to the online game mode.
